Who would you compare him to that we’ve had in the past? Is he a potential game changer at WR?
Jacolby George with a higher ceiling, and hopefully not the asshead penalties lol. I think long-term Stefon Diggs is a good upside comparison. Maybe some Zay Flowers. Not saying he can definitely get to their level, but his game is similar.
He wasn’t in Gaby’s mock classes…Even the part of UM’s recruiting process that would wait it out for the kid probably doesn’t satisfy Stevens not wanting to take a back seat to Lennear with NIL, etc.
Also…Not like Chaminade has went smoothly for UM the last couple years.
Add the name Jamison Larsen - Quarterback from Miami Palmetto. He just transferred in this semester from Wisconsin. He is 6’4-230 Pounds. Kid can both throw the ball and run. He has all the tools to be very good.
I think he will end up a top 50 player in South Florida.
Julius Jones mentions UM but we never really had a chance. He did most likely have an offer though. He’s an ND legacy
We are still recruiting Zayden Gamble and wanted him, I guess there’s a chance he flips down the stretch but not likely, nor do I get the idea we will wait til the bitter end with him.
Surprisingly Jamar Thompson does not have a commitable offer to UM at the moment. We have been recruiting him for a long time, but we may need to see more from him Sr. year. There are rumors, and I have no idea if they were ever substantiated or not, that at one point this spring, he showed up at one of the UM functions too heavy. Again no idea if true…If you look we don’t take many 300+ DT and even once they get here our DT seem to play in between 290 and 310…So that could be an issue. We don’t really recruit 0 or 1 gap noses, so maybe that’s how they view Thompson…He is someone I think they should take a chance on, but again I’m nowhere near close to the situation and definitely see some differences between him and other recent DT recruits.
We are recruiting #7 and #8 Valade and Hyppolite heavily, I expect at least one to end up at UM with a chance at both(although they may fighting for the same spot as well)
No one else on this list that isn’t already committed has a commitable UM offer at the moment…
The kids that have “interest offers” or are the most likely to work their way in as backup plans or with strong senior years are:
A few years ago, I was flipping through television channels and landed on a Sacramento State game. It was then I got my first glance at Cameron Skattebo who was running roughshod over the opposing team. Subsequently, I researched the kid’s past, and concluded that game was no one game phenomenon. I knew Scattebo would light it up when he moved on to Arizona State. Do you suppose we might have a Skattebo clone lurking somewhere here in Florida?
We do. His name is Xander Edwards and he’s going into junior year at elite private school, not well-integrated Jacksonville Bolles. Already young Xander is a physical specimen–6’2” and weighs 215 lbs. Get this. As a sophomore, Xander rushed for nearly 2700 yards. In one game, he racked up 520 yards and scored EIGHT tds. Xander broke Derrick Henry’s local rushing record for a single game.
This kid is still growing. In watching his film, you’ll see surprising speed for a big guy, yet nimble footwork, allowing him to run around defenders not through them which is his normal choice. Xander is one tough kid I imagine John Riggins looked something like Xander when he was in high school.
Much like Butch passing on Antonio Bryant who went to Pitt and Walt Harris…and Tommy Bohanon who wound up at Wake Forest …(two standouts who should have played for Miami) ….you’ve got to hope Mario changes that and grabs every diamond in the rough.
