This is why politics are toxic. People are willing to disown family all of the time over who they vote for. I see it a lot on the left.
I have a younger brother who is gay and lefty and we don’t talk politics but we’d never disown him. Something’s off there.

He disowned me. He’s on the right. I simply abided. The dude abides. I can, however, hold a grudge for eternity. Of course, he’s the oldest brother and I’m the youngest. He’s had two kids and not raised one, spent most of life moving in with either myself or the other brother after he fucks things up. At one point in my life, I rented a two bedroom apartment for him and gave him an allowance. I grew up with a few black dudes that are like brothers to me. We grew up in each other’s houses, yards, and corners. I’ve never treated a black person differently than a white person in my life, wasn’t raised like that. We remain friends til this day, one I visit out of state in Charlotte and vice versa couple times a year for some golf, etc…Another still lives near me, meet up occasionally for a beer or I would go watch his kids play soccer and hoop, he and his white wife are libs…His wife pretty diehard, a big Bernie Sanders fan. I haven’t seen her for a couple years, but we are friends and hug and laugh if we saw each other. Another who moved into my apartment from 2010-2012 at a time he really he needed to, now lives in Denver. Every one of these dudes hug my mother like their own when they see her. I’ve had flings with a few black women, every now and then they still check up and we laugh and talk some shit via text. I also have a couple others that are friends or others I’ve simply been on a date with.
And I voted dem most of my life…Until the progressive bullshit went too far. And still lean left on many issues. Many blacks I know feel the same way, although obviously some don’t. I don’t consider a person’s politics when I deal with them.

I have to disagree here. This is just from personal experience but I don’t know any conservatives or moderates that will disown family over politics. I know plenty of examples of the left that fit the bill. My wife has a childhood friend that blocked all those she’d known for years because she suspected they voted for Trump. She didn’t even know for sure. She just suspected it and unfriended them.
I think it’s way more common on the left.
That’s because you’re conservative and so are many you interact with, so you hear the horror stories about the other side. Meanwhile liberals have a lot of liberals around them, and they hear all the horror stories about conservatives.
Really, to think any one political party has a monopoly on human nature is pretty naive. Let’s use our brains a little and realize that being a dick has nothing to do with being conservative or liberal.
I’m not saying it’s universal one way or the other. Of course it could be with either party. I’m just saying that those that I know personally or via Facebook that do that kind of thing tend to be liberal. That’s not the same thing as saying all liberals do this or no conservatives do it.
You know why? Because the people that do it legitimately think Trump is Hitler and if you voted for him you are voting for Hitler. Warden is the perfect example right here in this forum.
