I have to disagree with “But he got fired over emails from 10 years ago?”.
5, 10, 15 or 20 years ago, the statement Gruden made can’t be swiped under the rug like it never happened.
Not going to mention the fact that the majority of workers are people of color but There’s no way he can hold his locker room together. This dude is a professional and should be held accountable for his actions on and off the field.
Side note: Not surprised to see some of the Miami fan base wanting to hire Gruden SMH…I guess that would seal the deal for Miami becoming the “Harvard of The South”. If you think its difficult to get top recruits to commit to Miami before Gruden. What could he possibly say to a black, single or gay parent to get their kid to play for him?
Absolutely 11 - I’m not dismissing or minimizing anything he did. Perhaps if this were a one off - he could survive it. But clearly the emails were not an isolated incident.
I’ve worked in HR for a long time - and I’m a firm believer that behavior has consequences. I lived in Cincinnati a long time before ultimately getting back to FL; I often felt like the only one there who believed Pete Rose shouldn’t be in the Hall of Fame.
I guess I’m just disappointed - I liked Gruden as a coach - and I really liked him as a commentator.
Just an unfortunate situation.
And to think……this all came out because of the investigation into the WFT…………so what’s going to come out there???
It’s not stupid when you realize that this grown man, making millions of dollars thought it was a good idea to say abhorrent nonsense in an email, FOR A DECADE. It’s not like he said some disgusting crap once, 10 years ago. He was sending these emails as recently as 2018. How can you expect anyone to follow you, when they know that you don’t respect their humanity?
Here’s a thought: Don’t do and say stupid crap in writing.
Don’t do stupid crap and put it in writing. Actions have consequences. He managed to be a disgusting douchebag in regards to EVERYONE. It’s impressive when you think about it.
Not a Gruden fan … but the what-aboutism possibilities resulting from what happened to him seem almost endless.
Hunter Biden, Joe Biden, Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, Joy Reid, et al., have made similar kinds of statements publicly, in private messages, tweets, etc. Remind me what happened to them.
Of course, it is extremely important in a league filled with violent felons and other criminals to maintain the strictest moral standards.
Gruden got caught up in the NFL’s witch hunt to get Dan Snyder. These were private emails between friends. I didn’t see anything that Gruden wrote that should have resulted in him being forced to resign. A public apology, or as in the case of some of those mentioned above, a complete denial of writing the offensive passages. (“OMG! I’ve been hacked by time travelers!!!”) should have sufficed. But, this is where we are in 2021.
I doubt many of those presently clutching their pearls over Gruden would survive similar scrutiny if their private messages and emails from many years past were closely examined.
Gruden will have to endure the punishment of being on permanent vacation while living off the millions that he probably received from the balance of his long-term contract in exchange for his immediate resignation.
229, surely there’s a lot more there. The NFLPA is trying to get them to release the rest of it. If they’re successful and the emails do come out, my guess is the NFL’s image will be put in a VERY bad light.
I’m sure this shit is rampant there. All these names will come out as having said similar shit as Gruden, and the NFL and franchises will need to figure out how to move forward. Will they be forced to fire every one who is implicated?
This has the potentially to be an absolute shit show for the NFL.
