This is the best Mario can do. He had a QB that comes once in a generation, a QB that comes around maybe once in your career if you’re lucky, and he squandered it making stupid decisions.
I really think Miami should move on. Go in a different direction. Mario is NOT going to bring Miami back to the promised land.
This was a terrible game, one that we should have won. Kicking the FB was abject stupidity. We showed no faith in our offense to score in the red zone.
Eight years ago we won this bowl game over West Virginia when it was the Russell Athletic bowl. That’s the lone bowl win we’ve had since Coker’s last game vs Nevada in the potato bowl in 2006.
Stunning how bad this program was allowed to drop. Again, I said it at the start, I miss the peach bowl.
We’re lucky to have good recruiting. Mario delivered us Cam Ward. Without Ward, we’d have had a losing season. Emory Williams surely is not the answer. How many teams can rush for over 300 yards and lose the game? It’s like we watched the Syracuse game twice. We made the same mistake twice.
Let’s face it. We lost this game the second Cam came onto the field without his helmet in the 2nd half. That was it.
Tragically, we still COULD have won it. The defense played a great 2nd half, only giving up 2 TDs. But on offense we abandoned the run. The same run we should have scored with INSTEAD of the first FG.
The 2nd FG we only tried to pass once. It was a dumb decision, but it was what it was. It was followed by a run for no gain. I understand the hesitation there, but you need to fun again on 4th on the 2. YOU NEED TO.
Those were the last points we scored. Should’ve tried for the win, no?
Instead of kicking the field goal, let’s suppose we failed to score. ISU would have gotten the ball inside the five. We plainly lost confidence in our offense. Horrible coaching.
It actually might have worked out better to only be up by 3. Then Iowa St might have tied the game with a F instead of winning with a TD.
Whatever “numbers” or “data” these coaches are using to decide between FG or TD, they are not placing enough emphasis on a missed TD forcing the opposing team to start inside the 5. In many cases that is a good chance at a punt and another start in good field position. It keeps the pressure on the other team instead of resetting the field with a kickoff.
I’m not sure field position makes much difference give how bad Miami’s defensive back 7 is.
They are terrible which is why Miami lost 3 of its last 4 games.
Miami would have won today if Cam played the second half.
Went grocery shopping, ran some errands came back and finished binge-watching the last episode of a Netflix series …to find out it all went as expected. Heh.
I’m believing that he’s either Larry Cristobal or Mario Coker …dunno which. They’re probably laughing their rear-ends off in Oregon.
Anybody who attempts to describe any part of the Iowa state team as “fleet-footed” can be successfully sued… for defamation.
If Ward indeed sat out the second half …then Martinez , Fletcher & Co. should have been wearing out the D with constant pounding.
Have not read the ~135 posts yet but just finished watching the game.
Martinez taunting on that long touchdown was bush league and totally unnecessary. Fuck that guy.
Most of the game I wanted to shove pop tarts down the announcers’ throats so they would shut up about pop tarts. The singular of pop tarts is pop tarts? I can go to my grave happy now.
Sam Brown declaring? “And the Arizona Cardinals have picked up Sam Brown as an unsigned FA…”
The poor tackling continues unabated. This continues to beg the question of whether or not the major problem is average players or poor coaching (or both)? It’s kind of hard to imagine Jason Taylor looking around and thinking, “Hey, this train is on the right track.”
Last year I thought Francisco Mauigoa might be a day two pick. I think Sam Brown will get picked up as a FA before Mauigoa.
In turn the stupid penalties continue. This supports the argument that the players themselves might have great measurables but lack intelligence and/or need anger management courses.
Emory Williams might have been thrown to the wolves but this will now be an off season of anxiety due to his quite underwhelming performance. All I will remember are the three batted down passes (may have been more, I stopped counting).
When I paid attention it seemed like Jo Jo Trader has some skills.
In conclusion, heading into next season it is fair to assume that Cristobal is on the hot seat. With a lesser recruiting class coming in as well as it seems a less stellar group of transfers. One might assert that if Cristobal cannot turn this ship around that the last “Hail Mary” is to go outside the family. Everyone else has brought the program up a little only to see it crash to where it started (if not worse). Will be interesting to see how many other rats (players) jump ship between now and the first game of next season.
Mario was a splash hire and a good one in my opinion. I don’t see Manny Diaz having anymore success than Mario has had. For some reason we cannot seem to land an elite HC. No one wants to come here, why? I don’t think Mario is an Elite coach but he is an elite recruiter. If you’re not an elite coach at least surround yourself with elite coaches who know HOW to coach up players.
Seeing our guys fighting on the sidelines is not a good look for the program.
I should hope that Mario will have his come to Jesus moment and really take a look at his staff and make changes where needed.
