The budget of UM is over 3.5B per year so Ruiz, while powerful, is not more important than Frenk and the annual revenue needed to keep the wheels on the bus. Fans want wins but this is a major medical university that impacts a community in ways football never will. Thus, Ruiz will have a say when he is willing to fund major budget increases to athletes but 25m/yr is peanuts. Even giving $1b for a stadium is great but Miami has tens of billions in real estate.

I’d give the hire a B+…I believe Cristobal’s “grown up” as a coach so to speak. I think there’s a very high floor with Cristobal and we will be a big boy, non-gimmick, no drama type program. I’m not sure we will be elite and we are basically paying for elite though.

I feel the same. He is a good to very good coach, but not to the elite level yet. His ability to recruit should be a massive asset… as long as he is able to develop the guys he gets. He was very expensive, but hopefully, that will encourage others to think Miami is serious. I am interested in who he has on staff and schematically what direction he is going to go. With a big bump in assistants’ salaries, I am hoping to see some big names pop up.
if the BOT follows through on their commitment to massively invest, i think we will return to being a problem in college football. mario reminds me of kirby smart…excellent recruiter but not great Xs Os. we will have to be a recruiting juggernaut. simple as that
