My thoughts on them leaving can be summarized this way:
Fuck yay! Sick of having blood on our hands and good men killed for them. If they wanted freedom they would have put up a fucking fight.
I agree - unfortunately this will continue to be another region where A) atrocities will happen to the innocent and B) the next motivated terrorist may try to attack us.
