Stevenson gave up a couple easy ones with the stupid soft zone. Let him play press man! He is 215lbs and could keep those WRs from getting a release. Heck, let him play Press and drop into the flats.
Hall- no real complaints
Pass rush- we have one? I was concerned about DE and now those concerns have been confirmed. We don’t have any DE that have the bend to get around the OT. That is the first and most important move for a DE. Chantz should add 20 lbs and play 3-tech. JWilliams at 6’5 225 should be given a chance to play DE and add 20lbs. His NFL position could very well be 3/4OLB at 6’5 250lbs. He doesn’t have the speed or hips to play safety.
Ivey- 3rd TD given up. Sit him!
Carter- he has done ok but still has missed some arm tackles. One in the first half gave them a first down after 44 completely whiffed.
Lashlee sucked IMO
Williams- agree
King isn’t a QB. I’d like to see two QB set with King as the RB with an option to pass. He had one pass against app state when the defender left his man to stop king. The ole Tebow jump pass works some of the time.
Steed - 3rd or 4th off the bench, no problem. starting- we have a problem. I’d like to see JWilliams and Chase given snaps at Will. Let Steed move inside as I believe he is a better MLB than Will.
Harley- should have been given a game off to recover. Wiggins is still getting snaps for NO reason!
Miami has ignored the big speed guys for years. I’d always try to have a 10-10.5 guy on the team for this very reason. Let him return kicks and let him be a safety run walking down opponents.
Agree Williams may end up a 3-4 backer in NFL…But I’m not ruling him out at safety. I think Chatz Williams can be just find at end and starter quality at minimum. We have too many 3 tech candidates as is (Taylor, Roberts, JHH all behind Silvera)…No reason to move him there. I agree the pass rush is not there obviously. Ishamel probably needs a year, maybe 2. Just going to have to live with average DE play for a year after 3-4 years of very good DE play.
Carter- No one makes every tackle…And App State generates big running gains against everyone they play. I agree Carter hasn’t been perfect, but I think he’s been good. All over field against App State.
WLB…C.Smith and Williams are rail thin at this point. K.Smith moved there because he’s built like a backer, albeit one on the small side. Huff is also thing but apparently working at WILL…He was given a couple snaps in mop up vs. Bama (many weren’t given any snaps, so hey maybe he finally is showing something)…Huff/TAC need to be given a chance RIGHT NOW. If not, then kindly suggest portal to them.
Wiggins is fine by me as a #3 or #4 for wideout…His career has disappointed me as he’s a great size/speed combo, but it is what it is. Pope stinks…Glad to see him buried
Forgot about Harley’s injury vs. Bama…Maybe was out of rhythm and didn’t catch a lot of balls during week. Did make a reception on winning FG drive.
King is a very good college QB, just know what he is…He does not throw anything outside the hashes particularly well.
JWilliams is 6’5 224lbs. I wouldn’t call him rail thin. There have been lots of 6’5 230lb tweeners that eat on Saturdays. Chantz doesn’t have the bend to play DE well. Harvey is our best guy and he doesn’t appear to have enough.
Chase is 6’2 212lbs. I’m not sure that is rail thin when Huff is 6’3 200 getting snaps.
Heck, I’d be ok seeing what TAC/HUFF can do. We need Brooks 100%. Brooks is another 3/4 OLB type that could get asked to add 10-20lbs and play DE especially if he has lost a step due to the big toe injury.
I saw J Will against Bama…Hey if he works out there that’s fine…But in a 4-3 he looks too thin to be a traditional LB
Chantz Williams may not be super bendy/twitchy but I don’t think he’s hurting there…Maybe Chad Thomas type. I think he will leave a very good DE and like I said we have a whole DL roster of 3 tech types including kids that we all were very high on. Not to mention JHH looks very good
No argument over Brinson over Wiggins, but no idea what’s going on in practice…I like George but the one thing I can say is he needs physical strength…As good as his highlights look, when he doesn’t make you miss, he goes down easy…Shirt tackles, etc. Love to see what he can do ASAP. I’d like to see all these young guys get their shot VERY soon. I actually am as excited at Brashard Smith as any of them. Unless Diaz is this delusional type coach who thinks every kid is going to be at UM 5 years which at times it seems like he is…His loyalty to bum veterans is alarming to say the least.
Smith came in at 178…I never trust UM numbers but hey if it he’s at 212 then let him give it a whirl. I just think he is what they are looking for in striker and may just be grooming him there.
