2025 Portal Additions

My concern is that our staff doesn’t seem to be developing our DB group well at all OR we have pretty well stunk at recruiting good talent and therefore our scouts need to be upgraded?

Added Brockmeyer from TCU.

There isn’t much out there at all. Big drop-off after Mateer…Miller Moss is ok.

Yeah, unless someone pops up in the spring portal our QB is on the roster.

Nice pickup of the Center from TCU. Another one year stop gap.

I have said it for a while the qb will make or break next years season’s success and Mario job. The bad thing I believe is that any decent receiver will not want to come here if we don’t have a good quarterback secured. So we would need to get a qb asap. I also think we don’t have the funds to keep paying big bucks for a one year rental for a qb while not developing any other qbs. With Miami being a small private school I have a bad feeling this may be the new norm that Miami can not survive in. The larger schools will have more money to pay players and the smaller school will fall out of the competition.

We have to recruit and develop some QBs. One more stop gap next year is needed though.

Unless the NCAA steps in to put a “salary cap” on the NIL deals for each team then, yes, it will be all SEC in the CFP in the future (as long as the NCAA ALSO puts a limit to when the portal opens in the winter).

I am in the minority when it comes to paying college players to play sports. Why all of a sudden it’s become “necessary” is beyond me.

NIL and TWO portals have ruined college sports.

I don’t look at paying players as being necessary but more as since some are getting paid illegally so let’s make it fair and legal for everyone. We know the good players were getting paid one way or another.

Don’t forget the BIG 10 teams and ND. They have a ton of money to spend.

Bauman from Tulane to UM. Added

Wow…Ethan O’Connor to UM. Big get here! One of the top 3-4 players on our portal board.

Yep!

So, we reward the illegal actions of some to benefit all? Moot point here on this board, I know, but the NCAA has a chance to put a cap on the spending to make it fair, as it is in the NFL, AND to change the portal rules.

Putting a cap will limit the transfers as schools won’t have all the money in the world to spend.

As far as the portal, I think just ONE in the spring is the best way to go. It makes no sense to have one here in the winter and especially before the bowl games.

You don’t think putting a cap on it will make it go back to the illegal payments. If bama already spent their allotted amount and the qb they want says I want more. U don’t think somehow they will get him more?

Illegal activity is always something to be concerned about it. Heck, we did it. But, to do nothing will only make it all about the big money schools.

as far as i’m concerned, these portal additions don’t really mean much without getting a capable QB. this is embarrassing that we can’t get one despite just having a record breaking season on offense and possibly the #1 QB drafted.

Maybe we win with defense this year. Again there’s not much out there QB wise, and only one team could get Mateer.

Yeah, I agree, really nothing out there worth spending money on. We just need a guy who can manage the game, like Dorsey, and get it the playmakers, like Dorsey.

I honestly would bring someone in to compete at this point, but kids want guaranteed starting spots as well, and I just don’t see that out there…Are there guys I would make a favorite over Emory Williams to win the starting job, yes. So maybe I’d overpay slightly for the market rate to compete?

But there are plenty of guys I’ve seen people on other boards or national articles on available QBs that I certainly wouldn’t want as my starter or get into a bidding war over. Dequan Finn, for instance, lasted a long time (just committed to Maryland), I wouldn’t want him anywhere near UM’s starting job. Khai Horton? Alex Orji? Only if we plan on throwing 10 or fewer times a game? Malachi Nelson? Has transferred twice and was beaten out by an average frosh this year at Boise.
